Tom Welsh - Girls Lead Trainer, Head Coach

Playing Experience: Coach Welsh officially started his playing career as a freshman at Neuqua Valley High School.  Quickly growing a passion for the sport, he joined Naperville Volleyball Club where he competed before joining College of DuPage’s volleyball program.  Tom continues to play in open gyms and tournaments in the Chicagoland area.

Coaching Experience: Coach Welsh brings close to 15 years of head coaching experience to Breaker Volleyball Club.  From 2006-2010 he returned to Naperville Volleyball Club as a head coach. Welsh then spent seven years in Champaign (2010-2017) coaching both the local club and high school teams.  At Arcola High School (2014-2017), Coach Welsh was tasked with taking over a program that hadn’t finished with a winning record in over ten years. Under Welsh’s leadership and guidance, the program saw unprecedented success with three consecutive winning seasons and the most wins in program history in a three year span.  After his time at Arcola, Tom accepted the position of Head Varsity Coach at Monticello High School (2017). In his one season the team had more combined wins then the previous five seasons total.

During his time in Champaign, Coach Welsh also coached for Prime Time Volleyball Club.  As a head coach, all of his teams finished seasons with winning records. Coach Welsh also played in integral part of the club’s training curriculum, often leading program practices for various age groups, ranging from 13U-18U.

Coach Welsh joined Breaker Volleyball Club in the 2018-19 club campaign and helped guide both Breaker’s national and regional level programs to successful seasons.  In addition to his role as lead trainer at Breaker, Coach Welsh is also the Head Volleyball Coach at Morton College (Cicero).

Personal Information: Tom currently lives in Naperville with his fiancé and their two dogs. Tom and Stephanie (his fiancé) previously lived in Champaign, where he spent close to ten years and where he met Stephanie.  During the day, Tom works in real estate as the Marketing Coordinator for RE/MAX Properties in Western Springs.

Coach Welsh: “I cannot express how excited and blessed I am to be able to continue my coaching career at Breaker. To be in a place where I am able to give back to the community I grew up in and a place where I played as an athlete (over a decade ago) is something I couldn’t have ever imagined. I am incredibly excited about the opportunity and am looking forward to continuing to build the Breaker name for years to come!”

Celina Wlodarski - Girls Program, Head Coach

Playing Experience: Celina began playing volleyball when she was 10 years old. She continued to play throughout middle school and all four years at Elk Grove High School as a setter and defensive specialist. After high school, Celina played in co-ed recreational leagues at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Coaching Experience: Celina joined the Breaker Volleyball Coach in 2017, where she has remained as a middle school head coach ever since. Celina has also helped lead Breaker’s Volleykidz program and various camps and clinics.

Personal Information: Celina grew up in Des Plaines, Illinois. She graduated from Elk Grove High School in 2014 and went on to study Elementary Education, Special Education, and Spanish at UW-Madison. She then transferred to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she continued to study Elementary Education and Spanish. After a final transfer, she finally settled at Elmhurst College and now studies Communication Sciences and Disorders. She will begin graduate school in the fall of 2019 to study Speech-Language Pathology. She believes that anything is possible with Google Calendar and coffee, as she balances six jobs, a volunteer position, clinic hours, and a full-time course load. She currently lives in Lombard with her sister and her sister’s fiancé, where they run an in-home doggy daycare! A fun fact about Celina is that she loves to travel! She lived with a host family in Spain for four months and studied (and is proficient in) Spanish. She has also hiked through Joshua Tree National Forest, climbed the Rock of Gibraltar, biked through Amsterdam, scuba dived the Great Barrier Reef and surfed the Pacific Ocean in Australia. She has plans to go to Perú with her best friend to explore Machu Picchu in the spring!

Coach Celina: “I am more than excited to kick off my second season with Breaker! It’s rare to find a home in which both coaches and players share the same energy and passion for volleyball, but that’s what we have here. Hard work and passion are bred here with talented coaches and determined players. Breaker chose me last year, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to choose Breaker this year.”

Finnley Smith - Girls Program, Head Coach

Playing Experience: Finnley began playing volleyball competitively at the age of 12 as a setter. From there, she started playing at Paradise Valley High School, where she spent lots of time in the gym making herself a better and stronger player. She was a two year Varsity starter and her senior year of high school, she committed to play her collegiate career at North Central College, where she still works hard. She is very passionate about training the whole athlete, which she learned from the club OTL and her high school coach.

Coaching Experience: Finnley began her coaching career her freshman year in college. She was an assistant coach at her old club, On The Line, where she was able to begin learning what kind of coach she wants to be.

Personal Information: At North Central College, Finnley is studying exercise science and coaching. She is currently a sophomore and is working towards majoring in a Bachelor of Arts in exercise science, with a minor of coaching.

Coach Smith: “I am so fortunate to be coaching with Breaker Volleyball Club this season! I can’t wait to share my love for the game, teach players to be ‘all in’, and be a positive model for all of our players in our program.”
